 City of West Chicago Hosts Summer Blood Drive for Heartland Blood Center
The City of West Chicago will once again be hosting a summer blood drive for Heartland Blood Center. The drive will be held in a fully equipped and air conditioned mobile unit which will be parked in the City Hall parking lot at 475 Main Street, on Monday, July 2, 2012, from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Someone you know may need blood. According to Heartland Blood Centers, there is a 95% chance that someone in your family, a fellow employee, a neighbor, a friend, or even you will need a blood transfusion at some time in your life. In fact, patients in area hospitals need 3,500 pints of blood every week. Summertime can be a critical collection period for blood centers nationwide. Blood inventory levels reach a low point due to sluggish donations surrounding the July 4th holiday, school closings and vacations keeping many donors from giving blood.
As a special 'thank you' for donating blood for others less fortunate, all blood donors will receive a certificate good for $11 in retail purchases at any Oberweis Ice Cream and Dairy Store location, compliments of Heartland Blood Centers.
