Sean McComb 2012 Special Olympics Softball Throw State Champion

Sean McComb 2012 Special Olympics Softball Throw State Champion

On June 15 and 16, 2012, about two thousand student athletes gathered with their coaches and families for the State Special Olympics Meet.  Two of those people were John Parker, Coach and Special Education Teacher at West Chicago High School and Sean McComb, a sophomore at the high school.  Sean traveled to Normal with his family to participate in the Softball Throw.  Friday night was the opening ceremony during which both athlete and coach were selected to be flag bearers.  Together Coach Parker and Sean were able to lead the procession while holding the official Special Olympics Flag.  Both had the experience of hearing their names and school announced over the loud speaker.  Sean’s parents, siblings and grandparents proudly watched from the audience.   The next morning Sean competed in the Softball Throw.  Sean was placed in the 12 to 15 year old division.  The competition was very close but Sean pulled off the winning throw.  West Chicago Community High School is very proud to have a state champion.  After the competition ended, Sean was awarded a gold medal.  Sean was thrilled and proud to win the state meet.  Congratulations again to Sean McComb and his family.
