District 33 Custodian recognized at as public education ambassador during INSPRA Distinguished Service Awards

The Illinois chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (INSPRA) honored 35 public education individuals and teams for their outstanding communications work at INSPRA’s annual Distinguished Service Awards luncheon at the Bolingbrook Golf Club.

INSPRA recognized honorees in the categories of Administrator, Board of Education Member, Community Member, Faculty/Certified Staff, Parent, Support Staff and Team.

District 33 custodian at Indian Knoll School, Mr. Humberto Benitez, was one of the honorees in the category of Support Staff. Mr. Benitez has worked for Elementary School District 33 for 17 years, with 16 of those years being the custodian at Indian Knoll Elementary School and has always treated the school like his second home. He was nominated for this award by principal Jen Tapia and staff at Indian Knoll. As stated in the nomination:

“He truly loves and takes pride in this school, not only the building, but also the students. He always greets the students with a smile, takes time to talk to them during lunches, and knows most of them by name. In fact, he knows a lot of our parents by name also,”

NSPRA chapter members from Nebraska, Tennessee, New York, Missouri, Iowa, Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey, Kansas, Oregon and Texas judged entries. Only those receiving top scores in a variety of areas received awards. To see the list of award recipients, go to https://goo.gl/zxcvwa.

“INSPRA is very happy and proud to recognize and honor this year’s recipients for their excellent communications about public education,” said INSPRA President Ryan McPherrin, Director of Community Relations for Community Consolidated School District 93 in Bloomingdale.

“These awards rightly highlight some of the many people who help our families and taxpayers understand the vital role of public education. This work is more important now than ever,” McPherrin said.

The mission of INSPRA is to provide a source of connection, collaboration and professional development for school communicators in order to strengthen support for Illinois public schools, which leads to greater student success. Workshops and programs take place throughout the year, providing opportunities for members to learn and grow in their craft. The Distinguished Service Awards luncheon is a highlight of the year and is attended by communications professionals, superintendents, board of education members and other school leaders.
