West Chicago Elementary D33 Opening Institute Illustrates the Power of Teams

In the morning session of the West Chicago Elementary School District 33 Opening Institute for all staff, Dr. Charles Johns, Superintendent stressed the importance of working together as a team to help all students continue to grow and succeed, not only in their academic world, but in their daily lives, now and in the future.

“We must work together as a team, share our successes and learn from our failures, in order to continue to increase our students’ academic growth and achievement. We cannot do it alone!”

In his former life, Johns was an English teacher and as he often says, “I love metaphors – using stories or illustrations to help visualize a concept.”

So to emphasize the importance of working as a team, the entire D33 staff filed outside the doors of the Leman Middle School onto the field, into the formation of “D33”.

“This formation could not be done by one person or even a group of staff – it took participation from ALL STAFF  in order for it to be successful. It was a perfect metaphor for working together for the academic, social and physical success of our ALL students and their families.”

It was also a great way to gather and enjoy the eclipse!
