Chuy’s Warrenville Donates More than $7,500 to The Student Excellence Foundation

Chuy’s Warrenville, the Austin-based Tex-Mex restaurant that recently opened in the community in July, presented a check yesterday for $7,522.68 to The Student Excellence Foundation as a result of several grand opening celebrations the restaurant hosted to mark its entrance in the Chicago market.

“Chuy’s has always believed in giving back to the community, and supporting organizations in the neighborhoods where we do business,” said Larry Cappos, local owner/operator of Chuy’s Warrenville. “It’s been a privilege to help raise money for the Student Excellence Foundation and we look forward to continuing to work with this wonderful group in the months and years to come.”

Prior to opening a new restaurant, each Chuy's location partners with a local charity that serves a vital role in the community and hosts various fundraising initiatives during its grand opening events. The money for The Student Excellence Foundation, a local non-profit group dedicated to enhancing, supporting and promoting education enrichment programs and activities for students in District 200, was raised during Chuy’s Redfish Rally, a pre-opening tailgate party that introduced members of the community to the restaurant’s made-from-scratch dishes and fun-loving, eclectic atmosphere; a social media promotion; and Chuy’s pre-opening Charity Night.

“We are very grateful for Chuy’s support,” said Jennifer Merck, vice president, Student Excellence Foundation. “This donation will go a long way in funding our annual grants to individual educators, as well as helping with three district-wide initiatives taking place during the 2017/2018 school year.”
The three district-wide initiatives that will be funded include:

  • Video equipment and a video service subscription for the District’s 17 elementary and middle school Library Learning Centers.  The “LLC Studio Upgrade” project will facilitate student video productions where students are encouraged to plan, organize, collaborate, cooperate, be creative, think critically, and solve problems in creating their own learning videos.
  • A two-day Kagan Professional Development course for 80 K-12 educators, who in turn will share their learnings with other educators in the District.  This training provides a proven model for teachers to enhance classroom management and engagement.
  • One-day attendance for the District's 21 PACE educators at the Illinois Association for Gifted Children convention.  This will focus on helping educators address gifted children's unique academic and social-emotional needs.

Chuy’s Warrenville is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner: from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday. On weekdays, the restaurant features daily drink specials and a Fully-Loaded Nacho Car, a free build-your-own nacho station with chips, salsa, queso, ground sirloin and more from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
