The purpose of the Western DuPage Chamber of Commerce is to promote economic development, develop, preserve and coordinate the private enterprise efforts of the business and professional community in working toward a growing, viable, and prosperous business climate, and to serve as an axis around which the business, educational, industrial, governmental, and professional people work to improve the business climate and the quality of life in the Western DuPage County regional area. The Chamber acts as the "one stop operator" for DuPage County through creating a seamless delivery of services for individuals seeking employment and small businesses.
This month, we interviewed Dave Sabathne, CEO and President of the Western DuPage Chamber of Commerce. Dave recently joined the WeGo Together Steering Committee and provides expertise about workforce development. In asking about why Dave chooses to support WeGo Together, he spoke to the large-scale impact he believes the work makes. "..in order to build the community for businesses to be successful, we need quality employees, and to employ quality employees, we need to support communities holistically. If businesses can help contribute to a supportive environment through family engagement or supporting parents to be confident in their ability to support their families, they will have stronger employees." Dave also reflected that collaborating with efforts like WeGo Together is intrinsic, it's who he is.
When asked about the type of impact he believes WeGo Together is making, he reflected on the "return on investment". We are elevating the quality of businesses through their employees, which supports and strengthens local economies. He spoke to how WeGo Together "fires on so many cylinders" which supports not only the community, but professionals to become more competent in different areas and creates space for growth.
Dave said he finds himself comparing WeGo Together to the Chamber in terms of the models being used. He says WeGo Together creates an environment that addresses areas that will be most impactful to families, with the understanding that all families do not need the same things.
The Chamber hosts a variety of networking and learning opportunities, including a monthly breakfast in Winfield. For more information on how to participate check out their website.
