WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH AT CANTIGNY


March events include two living history performances and Women of Chicago lecture

Wheaton, Ill., February 26, 2018 — Cantigny Park will honor Women’s History Month with four events at the Robert R. McCormick House. All are free to attend with paid parking ($5):

     • Second Saturday
       Saturday, March 10 ◊ 12 to 3 pm
       McCormick House Gold Theatre
       The museum opens its 2018 Second Saturday series with a celebration of the 19th Amendment, which in 1919 granted women the right to vote. Visitors
       can make suffragette sashes and pins. Second Saturday is a free drop-in program for families with a different theme each month; no registration is 
       necessary.

    • Amelia Earhart
      Saturday, March 10 ◊ 3 pm
      McCormick House Freedom Hall
      Living history actor Leslie Goddard will portray Amelia Earhart, the first female aviator to cross the Atlantic by plane and who later accomplished the feat
      flying solo, earning the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross. The program is ideal for families and children ages 10 and up. Please register in advance:

   • Mamie Eisenhower
     Saturday, March 24 ◊ 3 pm
     McCormick House Freedom Hall
     Living history actor Ellie Carlson will portray Mamie Eisenhower, America's beloved First Lady from 1953-1961. The program is ideal for families and children

   • How Women Helped Build Chicago
     Sunday, March 25 ◊ 3 pm
     McCormick House Freedom Hall
     McCormick House docent Laurie Russell will discuss how women responded at critical moments in Chicago’s history and shaped the city we know today. The
     program is suitable for adults and teens. Please register in advance: 630.260.8162 or online at Cantigny.org.

Cantigny Park is open 7 days a week starting March 1. Parking is $5. Parking is free on the first Wednesday of the month and always free for Cantigny Park members.
