All District 33 schools receive commendable rating from State

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released the annual Illinois Report Card, which provides a detailed look at each school’s progress on academics, student success, school culture and climate, and financial investments. West Chicago Elementary School District 33 is proud of our students’ continued growth in mathematics and English language arts.

This progress reflects the investments we have made as a community, through the Board of Education, in adopting and funding new literacy and math Tier 1 resources in K-8th grades. In addition, new staff was hired and professional development made more widely available through state Evidence-Based Funding and the Title I 1003(a) School Improvement Grant.

One component of the School Report Card is the summative designation – a descriptor of how well our schools are meeting the needs of all students. This designation is based on eight indicators of academic success and school quality. Each of our schools has received the designation of Commendable for the second year in a row, demonstrating that we have continued to meet the educational needs of all District 33 students.

“The new school rating system highlights the academic growth of our students and educational environment of the district through multiple measures, including attendance. In the past, schools were rated based on one test score, administered once a year,” said Kristina Davis, Ed.S., Interim Superintendent. “The new rating system paints a more accurate picture of the opportunities in our district, the growth of our students, and the hard work of our staff.”

For the first time ever, on the www.illinoisreportcard.com website, this designation and academic indicators appear alongside site-based expenditures. There are explanations of how much money our district spends per student at our school. With these two data points, we have the opportunity to take a closer look at the relationship between financial investments and student outcomes.

In West Chicago Elementary School District 33, we hold high expectations for all students and believe every student can meet our expectations with the right supports.
