District 33 Announces Next Superintendent

West Chicago District 33’s Board of Education announced at Monday evening’s special board meeting that it has selected Kristina Davis as the next district superintendent. Members of the Board selected Kristina at the conclusion of a search with BWP and Associates that included over 30 applicants.

The superintendent search process included an audit that gathered both survey and focus-group input from the community. This qualitative and quantitative input was then used to create a candidate profile. The board wishes to thank all community and staff members who participated in this process. The information gathered was very helpful to the board in determining the best candidate for the position.

Kristina Davis was born and raised in Hinsdale, Illinois, a suburb of DuPage County, and earned her Bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University (NIU) with a major in Spanish and concentration in Business and Translation. She went on to earn a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Educational Specialist degree from NIU with a Superintendent endorsement. Currently, she is working to complete her Doctorate from NIU.

Davis began her educational career over 20 years ago as a bilingual teacher, assistant principal, principal and assistant director before she landed a position in West Chicago District 33. For the past 10 years she has served in District 33 as the Director of Second Language Learning and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. She was appointed as the Interim Superintendent in June of 2019.

During her time in D33, she focused on developing the K-8 curricular program. She led D33 teams in the development of an inclusive educational model that includes the expansion and improvement in dual language education, special education, gifted and talented education, full-day kindergarten and middle school block scheduling. As the interim superintendent for the past five months she spent time listening and learning from the community through focus group interviews. Based on what she learned was important to key stakeholders she has prioritized increasing building safety, improving two-way communication with parents, developing strong grade level teams, and evaluating and improving some of the district’s programs.

Davis lives in Naperville with her husband Pete. She has two grown children, Joshua (22) and Alexandra (24).

Brenda Vishanoff, Board President, stated, “Kristina Davis brings a strong commitment to the parents and community of West Chicago to create systems of equity and opportunity for all students. Kristina has a deep passion for our families and a dedication to ensuring students are provided an outstanding educational environment. We are thrilled for her leadership to continue in our district and anticipate exciting opportunities and accomplishments in the coming years.”

Davis stated, “I am thrilled to continue to serve in West Chicago District 33 as your next superintendent. Over the past five months, It has been a pleasure to meet with students, families and staff to hear about the sources of pride in our community and ways we can continue to improve learning opportunities for all students. As we move forward, I will continue to listen and learn from our students, staff and families to set out a course for the future. It is an honor to be chosen to work with such committed staff and to be a part of such a special community.”

Kristina Davis has served as the Interim Superintendent since July 2019 and will begin leading the district as Superintendent on December 1, 2019. Please save the date for an open house event on Thursday December 5, 2019 at 6PM to congratulate Kristina Davis on her appointment!
