"Hometown Happenings" - City of Warrenville


MAYOR’S COLUMN

As I am writing this, the fate of the Ogden 6 Theatres in Naperville hangs in the balance. Most of us have probably been there at some time in the past, or perhaps you are a regular today. It resides in a mostly empty shopping center once dominated by a vibrant Kmart. A few other businesses remain, but the center hangs by a thread, and Naperville officials have been searching for a way to revitalize the site since the Kmart closed in 2013. Enter Costco.

Costco already has one Naperville presence, but has been actively looking for another, claiming that their current location is overcrowded, which hurts their business. They have proposed to add a new store at the site of the vacant Kmart. This would require the demolition of the Kmart, as well as most of the remaining businesses and the Ogden 6 Theatres. Should this proposal be approved, Naperville has vowed to help Classic Cinemas find another location. Continued on Page 4

ACORN Ride Card Buyback

The City will be offering a buyback program for unused ACORN van rides on purchased ride cards. The buyback program will be available during normal City Hall business hours beginning on April 13 through May 29, 2020.

Warrneville 2020 Census

Beginning March 12, Warrenville households will receive mail invitations to participate in the 2020 Census. Invitations will include instructions on how to respond to the 2020 Census online or by phone. By April 1st, most households will have received an invitation delivered either by mail or by a census taker (in case of P.O. Box). ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATE

Covington Realty Partners has begun work on the $35 million Vanguard Cantera Apartments project. The project consists of a new, four-story, 242-unit, highly amenitized, luxury apartment building with a 351-space integrated parking deck.
