VFW Voice of Democracy Contest “What Makes America Great”

The West Chicago VFW Post 6791 and the Ladies’ Auxiliary awarded almost $2,500 in prize money to students who entered the annual Voice of Democracy competition during the Feb. 18, 2020 Community High School District 94 Board of Education meeting. The VFW was represented by Commander Steve Bennier. The Auxiliary was represented by Voice of Democracy co-chair Nancy Smith.

Eighty-two students from West Chicago Community High School entered the contest designed to foster patriotism, allowing students the opportunity to voice their opinion in a three to five minute recorded essay based on an annual theme. This year’s theme was “What Makes America Great.” Each year, more than 40,000 students in grades 9-12 enter the contest.
