Lola Browning Named October Student of the Month

Lola Browning

West Chicago Community High School has selected Lola Browning of West Chicago as Student of the Month for October, 2020. Browning was chosen for being an outstanding student and representative of WeGo in the classroom, in activities, and on the athletic field.

A senior, Browning has been on High Honor Roll every semester of her high school career. She is a member of National Honor Society, serving as co-president, and the Spanish Foreign Language Honor Society. Browning has a cumulative weighted grade point average (GPA) of 5.632. In addition, the College Board has recently named Browning a National Recognition Program Scholar.

A very involved student, Browning serves as a Student Ambassador, and is a member of Club Green, Health Occupation Students of America, Math Team, and WeGo Global. She has played softball and volleyball all four years of high school.

Outside of school Browning has volunteered at local food banks, and holds a part time job at a local sandwich shop.

When asked about her favorite high school memory, Browning recalls, “The trip to South Carolina with the softball team my sophomore year. Myrtle Beach was beautiful and it was amazing to build strong bonds with all of the girls.”

Browning has this advice for future Wildcats, “No matter what you do, try your hardest at it. Whether it’s making friends, getting involved in clubs or sports, or completing schoolwork to the best of your ability. You will feel so much more fulfilled if you know you did the best you could do. And don’t forget to take care of yourself, physically and mentally!”

After graduation, Browning will attend a university to major in sociology with a minor in political science. She then plans to serve in the Peace Corps for two years. Her dream career would be to earn a place in government as an advocate for those who are silenced and under-represented in society.
