FIT CITY CHALLENGE KICKS-OFF IN WEST CHICAGO

Mayor Ruben Pineda announces the launch of the SparkAmerica Spring Fit City Challenge in West Chicago. The challenge is a free and friendly competition to encourage individuals to be physically active. It runs from April 15 through May 31, 2021.

People who live or work in West Chicago can participate in the challenge. It is easy to sign up on computers and mobile devices. An app will track one’s walking, running, biking, exercising, golfing, and participation in many different types of sports.

The Spring Fit City Challenge is part of SparkAmerica, a social impact campaign that is building the most accessible health and fitness, leadership development, and community support destination in the region. SparkAmerica is orchestrated by Babb, the National Forum’s Move with the MayorTM initiative, Oswald Companies, Spark360, Scripps, Vionic Shoes and other partners coming together to make a big impact on communities across
the country.

“I’m pleased to promote this new challenge and to continue the work of our Healthy West Chicago initiative to ensure that all residents of West Chicago will have access to an optimal state of health and wellness through

educational programming programming like the Fit City Challenge. The SparkAmerica campaign fits our mission to encourage our residents to keep moving for health,” said Mayor Ruben Pineda.

“We are excited to use the SparkAmerica movement to transform one person, one organization, and one city at a time.  We do this by helping people reach one goal at a time in fitness, health, and other areas of life.  We are thankful to have SparkWest Chicago join our group of cities this year and want to recognize Mayor Pineda for leading this effort!”, says Spark360’s Founder, Chris Downie.

“The National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention is excited to partner with SparkAmerica in the Spring Fit City Challenge through our Move with the Mayor program. Scientific research shows that being active now helps one stay active and reduces risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and cancer,” said John M. Clymer, executive director of the National Forum. “So, move with Mayor Pineda, get active, and help West Chicago bring home the win!”

SparkAmerica has developed an annual calendar with different themed challenges throughout the year and is helping individuals, companies and organizations overcome the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic by providing the opportunity to set a course for resiliency and recovery. This year, there is a Spring and Fall Fit City Challenge. Participants will have the opportunity to win prizes throughout the challenge.

This year participating cities include Akron, Altoona, Baton Rouge, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Findlay, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Toledo and West Chicago.
