The Robert R. McCormick House at Cantigny Park, the League of Women Voters of Wheaton, and the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County, announce an online presentation in the acclaimed Civic Awareness Series featuring Amanda Vinicky, Illinois government and politics correspondent for WTTW-TV, Chicago. She will speak on Thursday, February 10, at 8 pm CST.

The program is free, but advance registration is required at Cantigny.org or my.lwv.org/Illinois/wheaton. Registrants will receive a Zoom link before the event. Questions for the speaker may be submitted in advance to blaimins@gmail.com.

Vinicky’s remarks will focus on current happenings in the Illinois General Assembly and the upcoming primary elections. She frequently reports on these topics and other statewide issues as a segment host on WTTW’s “Chicago Tonight.”

Vinicky joined “Chicago Tonight” in 2017, after spending a decade as the

Statehouse Bureau Chief for NPR Illinois and the Illinois Public Radio network. She also co-hosted WSEC-TV’s “CapitolView,” and was a regular analyst on the “State Week” roundtable. Her work and analysis have been featured on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” “All Things Considered” and “The Takeaway,” and she’s garnered top honors from the Illinois Associated Press and the Association of Capitol Reporters and Editors.

Vinicky received her master’s degree in Public Affairs Reporting from the University of Illinois Springfield and has degrees in political science and journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She began her career in the Chicago suburbs as a newspaper reporter.

Established in 2017, the Civic Awareness Series is presented by the Robert R. McCormick House at Cantigny Park in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Wheaton. Programs in the series aim to inform and encourage local participation in the democratic process.

Cantigny Park opens its 2022 season on Friday, February 4. Visitors are welcome weekends in February (Friday-Sunday) before the park’s return to seven-day operations in March. The Robert R. McCormick House, a historic home museum, is currently closed for renovation and will reopen to the public later this year.
