JUST FOR KIDS FISHING DERBY RETURNS TO BLACKWELL JUNE 12

The DuPage Forest Preserve District invites anglers 15 and under to drop a line at the Just for Kids Fishing Derby on Sunday, June 12, from 8 a.m. to noon at Silver Lake at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville.

The free family-friendly event awards prizes in four age categories to anglers who catch the largest of three types of fish or who win the casting contest. The awards ceremony and a raffle take place at the end of the program.

Families can register for the derby online until 11:50 p.m. on June 11, through Visitor Services at 630-933-7248 weekdays 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., or at the event.

The entrance to Blackwell is on the north side of Butterfield Road (Route 56) 0.25 mile west of Winfield Road and 1 mile east of Route 59.

Throughout the morning, anglers can also talk with Forest Preserve District fishing pros about tips and tricks for fishing DuPage waters. Fishing is one of the most popular activities in the forest preserves, which have more than 30 lakes and ponds and 45 miles of rivers stocked with bass, pike, walleye, and other species. Maps and creel limits are online and in the Forest Preserve District’s fishing guide.
