ELGIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE ARTS CENTER PRESENTS NEW MUSICAL "THE MAD ONES"

The Elgin Community College Arts Center’s new musical, “The Mad Ones,” opens Friday, February 24 and runs through Sunday, March 5.

“The Mad Ones” is a celebration of friendship, heartbreak, resilience, possibilities, and life seen through the eyes of a young woman charting a new path. The show is about living fully and savoring the entire journey, drawing inspiration from Jack Kerouac’s “On The Road.” The musical is directed by Mary Hatch, retired dean of ECC’s Liberal, Visual, and Performing Arts Division, with musical direction by Marc Beth, associate professor of music.

“As soon as I listened to the original cast recording, I was all in,” said Hatch. “The music is stunningly beautiful; it just soars and lifts the heart. It’s raw and powerful, at times sweet and often downright silly. The composers [Kait Kerrigan & Bree Lowdermilk] are incredibly talented. My hope is that this show will resonate with anyone who has found their way through the confusion and life’s inevitable challenges.”

ECC students Gabriella Urbina and Olivia Litton perform in "The Mad Ones"
