Itinerary:
Depart the U.S. and embark on our fabulous adventure to the Costa del Sol.
Today arrive in the Costa del Sol, Spain’s Mediterranean coastline! Upon arrival we will be met by our Chamber Discoveries tour manager aft er collecting your baggage and clearing customs. You’ll then be transferred to our hotel and home for the next 7 nights. The rest of the day is at leisure. Tonight enjoy dinner at the hotel with our fellow travelers.
After breakfast at our hotel, enjoy a day in Malaga, one of the oldest cities in the world, founded in the 8th century by the Phoenicians. Today, art is everywhere - you can experience exhibits dedicated to glass and crystal, classic cars, contemporary installations, and, of course, the works of Picasso, who was born here. Wander past banana trees and beautiful fountains as you walk through Paseo del Parque, then hit the old city to quench your thirst at a Spanish tavern.
Today we will enjoy a full-day tour to Ronda. You’ll see all the highlights of this lovely town, including the Plaza de Toros Maestranza and the Church of the Holy Spirit, in Ronda’s town square. The picturesque town of Ronda spans the plunging river gorge known as El Tajo, crossed by the impressive 18th-century Puente Nuevo bridge. You’ll visit the town square, known as Plaza de Espana, the Church of the Holy Spirit, built in 1485, and the Cathedral Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation (known today as the Church of Saint Mary the Elder), Plaza de Toros, the oldest bull ring in Spain, which has staged some of the most important events in bullfighting history. The museum’s collection of memorabilia includes photos of famous bullfighting fans, including Ernest Hemingway and Orson Wells.
Since today is free of scheduled activity we might want to join an optional tour to Mijas. Here you will be greeted by lovely whitewashed houses and spectacular views over the coast and countryside. Mijas is on of the most picturesque villages in Andalusia seated 1300 feet above sea level. Perhaps you'll even want to experience a true treat...a ride in a donkey-drawn taxi!
After breakfast, take an optional full-day tour to The Rock of Gibraltar. Also known as “The Rock”, this massive stone guards the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea and offers a fascinating blend of English and Spanish culture. Return to the hotel just in time for dinner.
Following breakfast, we will have an optional tour heading to Seville. Our tour will include visits to the Gold Tower, Giralda Bell Tower and the ornate cathedral housing Christopher Columbus’ tomb. We’ll also visit Alcazar Palace, an 800-year-old palacefortress of the Arab kings and explore the old Jewish quarter of Santa Cruz, beautiful Maria Luisa Park, and Plaza Espana.
Today enjoy a tour to Granada. Here the Alhambra Palace overlooks the city of Granada, and stands out as one the most famous examples of Moorish architecture in the world. Delight in a visit to the lush gardens of the Generalife, the summer palace of the Kings of Granada. Marvel at the Nasrid Palace, constructed around the Myrtle and Lion Courts in the 14th century.
After breakfast we will be transferred to the airport for our return flight home. (B) OR, extend your stay with 2 extra nights in Madrid, Spain's majestic capital! Mijas - 1/2 Day Tour (per person $89.00)
Your stay on Costa del Sol is not complete without having seen the most typical “white washed village”; The Burro Taxis (donkeys) are waiting to take you on a ride. Don’t miss the shrine of “Our Lady of the Rock”, carved into a solid piece of rock by a monk in the 16th century, and the smallest bullring of Spain, the only one that has a oval shape. The many lookout points offer breathtaking views of the coast and narrow little streets with flowerpots invite you for a relaxing stroll. Perfect place for shopping – Handicrafts, leather, Lladró, ceramics…
