Chicagoland Blue Star Mothers IL6 has been busy! Recently we hosted a brunch at Mission BBQ in Downers Grove to share fellowship with the Gold Star Parents in our area - this was our 3rd annual event and is a highlight of our year each time we can get together! We also were fortunate to be included in the inaugural Our Community Salutes event in Illinois, Tri-County Chicago, where 28 high school seniors enlisting in the military were recognized along with their families. We are looking forward to an ongoing relationship with this event! It is an honor to welcome these families into our military family!
Coming up soon, we have our BSMA President's Project Miles For Our Veterans - If These Boots Could Talk Virtual 5K, taking place in late July, whenever you want to do it - it's virtual! Registration is completed simply by purchasing a shirt from our Gold Star Family shirt provider, the link will be open from May 23 through June 14. This walk raises money for the charity selected by our National President each year - this year that is The Freedom 13. This organization was founded by the father of one of the 13 killed at Kabul Airport, Abbey Gate, as we left Afghanistan in August of
2021. His goal is to build recreational areas for Veterans and their families in all 50 states, the first one is in progress right now in his home state of Missouri.
