At the time the information was discovered, the officer in question was already on an unrelated leave of absence and has not served in an active-duty capacity for more than a year. The officer remains in a non-active duty status. As the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office proceeds with its review of the case, the Warrenville Police Department will now conduct an internal investigation to determine whether City or Department policies, procedures, or standards of conduct were violated and whether employment action is warranted. The City of Warrenville appreciates the responsibility it has to protect the public trust and to use the tools at its disposal with appropriate oversight and accountability. As technology advances and new tools become available, the City and the Department have continued to develop our processes and procedures to ensure our ability to detect any unauthorized use. The City of Warrenville and the Warrenville Police Department will continue to assist prosecutors in their investigation and support efforts to hold the officer accountable if it is determined that criminal activity took place. Given that the criminal investigation into this matter is ongoing, the City is unable to provide further information to the public at this time. The City of Warrenville will provide additional information to residents as soon as it is appropriate. |
